Esther G. Buckley Early College High School

The Laredo Independent School District Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) held their first meeting of the 2026-2027 school year with LISD Superintendent Guillermo Pro. The meeting was hosted by the Martin High School at the LISD Performing Arts Center in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Room.

The students were welcomed by Gerardo Rodriguez, LISD Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and Guillermo Pro, LISD Superintendent.

IBC Executive Vice-President Corporate Marketing Gabriel Castillo served as keynote speaker during the meeting. He discussed the importance of financial literacy for high school students. IBC also provided lunch from Chick-Fil-A and some amazing door prizes for our students.

During the meeting students also heard a presentation regarding the Society of Martha Washington Scholarship by LISD Director of Communication, Veronica Castillon.

Today the Texas Education Agency officially announced that Laredo ISD has earned two A’s. The annual ratings show that LISD earned an A in Academic Accountability with a district score of 90. Overall campus ratings for LISD’s 28 schools include 18 A’s and 10 B’s. No LISD campus earned a C or D. LISD also earned an A in finance through their Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating.

Checkmate! LISD’s named its top chess players after a fierce competition this past Saturday at the LISD PAC in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The LISD Fine Arts Department hosted an All-Star Chess Tournament for the district’s All-Star chess players. The top 10 winners were recognized with either a trophy or medal for their accomplishments.

The LISD Athletic Office hosted the Triple A awards Ceremony at the LISD PA. The ceremony honored LISD middle and high school student-athletes. The students were recognized for having perfect attendance, straight A’s and a winning attitude. Each student was presented with either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal for their academic achievements.
